SOULIVE / DAVID PILGRIM
Deep-grooved & funk-fueled, Soulive has arrived in a major way. The new-school organ trio is steeped in soul-jazz and breaking new ground, incorporating the dance music of the day - hip hop, old-school soul, dub, funk and rock. Trinidadian, David Pilgrim, born on an island paradise, grown in a hard city, reflects a New World Caribbean steel pan beat unlike either one.

This 24 strong Afro-Brazilian samba horde have been delighting audiences with their resounding percussion, intoxicating rhythms, and mesmerizing vocals. LOS AMIGOS INVISIBLES / JULIETA VENEGAS
Heavily indebted to funk, disco and acid jazz, Los Amigos Invisibles is a dance band from Venezuela who created a big buzz with a series of underground dance parties in the clubs of Caracas until they were 'discovered’ by David Byrne and signed to his Luaka Bop label. Critically acclaimed alter-Latina, Julieta Venegas is the Mexican answer to PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple and the Violent Femmes... a sultry mix of intimate rock, bossa nova, and electronica.

FILM: METROPOLIS W/ALLOY ORCHESTRA / DJ SULTAN 32
Fritz Lang's infamous 1927 silent film pits corrupt capitalists against the will of the workers. The Alloy Orchestra's score played on industrial junk and gizmos is at once disturbing and voluptuous. "Those who have heard Alloy Orchestra's accompaniments are consistently left in awe" - The New York Post (1hr:20mn @ 8:40). DJ Sultan 32 sets the mood as the sun sets with his own spinning take on the movie.

THE HOLY BODY TATTOO / STEREOTYPE
The hard hitting Vancouver based multi-media dance troupe The Holy Body Tattoo performs Our Brief Eternity featuring texts by cyber kings William Gibson and Chris Halcrow with sounds of ambient tribal music and scintillating dancing in front of shuddering films and images. THBT is athletic dance at its most anguished and angular. "Utterly Compelling" - The Stage, London. Stereotype is known across Canada for their scene busting high-energy theatrics some call "punk performance art." Now they are fast becoming Williamsburg's hottest power-pop outfit.

FILM: THE BLUE ANGEL W/THE BQE PROJECT / GLORIA DELUXE
In the role that made her an international star, Marlene Dietrich is Lola Lola in The Blue Angel (1930). A masterpiece of German grotesquerie set in a dark nightmare world, a stuffy professor falls blindly in love with a cabaret entertainer who proceeds to strip him of his dignity. Original score performed live by The BQE project (1hr:33mn @ 8:35). Brooklyn's Gloria Deluxe transforms itself from a Berlin lounge house band to the last act in a Nashville bar, weaving wry fables along the way.

Ben Munisteri's post-modern work respects classical form while defying its limitations. He's been called a choreographic visionary with a club-kid edge. This star-studded, Academy Award nominated extravaganza (1956) stars David Niven as the neurotically punctual Phileas Fogg out to prove he can travel around the world. Filled with exotic locales and over 40 cameo appearances, including Shirley MacLaine, Marlene Dietrich, Buster Keaton, Frank Sinatra, and Red Skelton. (2hr:55mn @ 8:30). LOS MUÑEQUITOS DE MATANZAS / YERBA BUENA - PROGRAM CHANGE!
Mesmerizing audiences with their fiery rumbas, explosive dance and captivating vocals, Cuba's legendary Los Muñequitos de Matanzas are amongst the highest regarded practitioners of rumba and the unequivocal masters of Afro-Cuban ritual music in the world. Founded in 1952, the group spans three generations of fathers and sons, brothers and sisters, uncles and cousins, and an extended family of musicians. Los Muñequitos return to the U.S. for their sixth tour since 1992 with a special program focusing on rumba, including lots of new material and some of the early melodic songs. The performance promises the same electric dancing, swirling melodies and rhythmically complex drumming that have defined Los Muñequitos as a seminal force in the development of Afro-Cuban dance and percussion.
